This pop rocks

Be your own soda jerk with a home carbonation system. The SodaStream Pure drink maker is a fun way to create your own sparkling water and soda while controlling the intensity of flavour and amount of sugar. Getting started is easy, the drink maker doesn’t require any electricity, just a few blasts and you'll be sipping on your own sparkling iced tea. It’s great for the environment, too, since the bottles are reused and not just recycled. SodaStream Pure starter kit, $199. Visit www.sodastream.ca for local
retail locations.

You need this Perhaps you have seen it on CBC’s Dragons' Den or on the menu at more than 30 Manitoba restaurants. Cavena Nuda is a whole oat product, touted as a rice alternative by the grower, Wedge Farms. We love the nutty flavour, that it’s packed with great nutritional qualities and that it is locally grown. Pick some up at Vita Health Stores, Organza, or Scoop n' Weigh and check out their website, www.wedgefarms.com for more locations and recipes.

New eats

The Hu’s on First empire has recently expanded to open a second location in Leon Centre called Hu’s Asian Bistro. The new spot will offer Hu’s favourites in a spacious contemporary atmosphere. • Chef Stephane Thierry, formerly of the Radisson Hecla Oasis Resort, has opened Mask Restaurant in Gimli. The cozy space is open all day, serving up traditional breakfast fare complete with Thierry’s homemade preserves in the morning. The dinner menu focuses on fresh, homemade Mediterranean cuisine by the European chef. Check them out at 129 7th Ave.

On the top of my wish list this Christmas is:

1) A full body massage chair (ha!). I’m pregnant, and even though my husband and business partner Pierre is very accommodating, my muscles seem to get tight and sore quite

quickly these days and I could literally have him massage me for hours!

2) A commercial duty Hobart N50 five-quart mixer with accessories in cherry red!

On my giving list:
1) Time with my family. My husband and I are giving ourselves a quiet day at home with just the two of us and our fuzzy-bum gang (dogs and cats) on Christmas Eve day—or at least that’s the plan. We can’t think of anything else that we’d love and appreciate more, especially since this will be our last Christmas with just the two of us.

2) As far as gifts that can be put under the tree—it’s time for a new TV and we’ve been oohing and ahhing over a Bose speaker dock for our iPhones. We would like to give my mom lawn care and snow clearing every year so she doesn’t have to take care of it herself.

On the top of my wish list this Christmas is:
By the time Christmas actually rolls around my favourite gift would be a nice tall glass of Lagavulin scotch, a Hoyo de Monterey robusto cigar and one hour to be able to enjoy them. I also really need a new set of snowboard bindings.

What I want to give:
I really want to give my kids a Kindle (ebook), because they are both such avid readers and we are running out of room to store all of their books. I would need the industrial strength model though or I’m sure it wouldn’t last a week.

On the top of my wish list this Christmas is:
After so many years in the business, I have everything I need equipment-wise. I don’t desire anything but good health for me and my family, and to spend quality time with them–especially my grandchildren.

On my giving list:
I think the best gift anyone can give their family is their time, but one thing I have always shared at the holidays is panettone (a traditional Italian sweet bread). It is a must on the table during the holidays.
